Happening Weekly is a free weekly email of events around Newton, Massachusetts, and Happening Concierge answers questions about those events by email and text. Both are run by Matthew Fiorentino. This page explains what we collect and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Your email address, if you subscribe to the newsletter or email Happening Concierge.
- Your mobile number, if you sign up to text Happening Concierge or text it first.
- What you choose to tell us so we can tailor picks: your neighborhood, who you usually go out with, what you like or skip, dietary needs and budget. We never ask about kids; if you mention their ages, we keep them as birth years (never names).
- The questions you send Happening Concierge and our answers, so we can reply in the same conversation and make the answers better.
- Basic delivery information our email service records, such as whether a newsletter was delivered or opened (our emails include a tiny image that tells us when they're opened), and which links in it you click.
- Reminders and alerts you ask for, and for trash-day reminders, the address you give us. An address you give only to look something up (like your trash day or school) isn't saved.
- Visits to this website, counted by Vercel Web Analytics without cookies and without identifying you.
- Where you first found us: the page you landed on, the site that sent you, and any campaign tag in the link. Your browser keeps this until you subscribe; then we keep it with your subscription.
How we use it
- To send you the newsletter you signed up for.
- To answer the questions you send, by the same channel you used.
- To send the reminders and alerts you ask for.
- To fix problems and improve our event picks and answers: which pages bring readers, which picks get clicked, and what people ask about.
- Now and then, to share a question in the newsletter as “asked this week,” reworded so it identifies no one: no names, places or other personal details.
We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Text messages
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except the service providers below that deliver the messages for us. We text you replies to the questions you send, and only the reminders and alerts you ask for. Texting is for subscribers, so we keep your number with your subscription. See the text messaging terms.
Service providers
We use a few companies to run the service. They handle your information only to do that work:
- Resend, which sends and receives our email
- Twilio, which sends and receives our text messages
- Supabase, which stores our data
- Vercel, which hosts this website
- Anthropic, whose AI model helps write answers to your questions
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link at the bottom of any issue.
- Stop text messages anytime by replying STOP.
- Stop any reminder or alert with the link in it, or by replying “stop.”
- Reply to any email with “what do you know about me?” to see your household details, or “forget my profile” to delete them.
- To see or delete what we have about you, email hello@happeningweekly.com.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address or number while you're subscribed or using the concierge, and for a short time after so we honor your unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete it sooner.
Children
Happening Weekly is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
